02/15/2010 - The Official Release of Silverlight Viewer for Reporting Services 2008. Insight.

There are no doubts, that those who have direct relation to the development of this unique product have a lot that must be said…

A few days ago I was lucky to attend Perpetuum Software production meeting and see with my own eyes how the deals with the official release of Silverlight Viewer for Reporting Services 2008 go on. Main participants of this project exchanged their opinions on the product’s future and its possible effect on the world of IT technologies. As a result I can’t but share the things which were discussed in a friendly atmosphere during the meeting forestalling a big event in Silverlight software development industry.

The meeting was started by resuming the results of long work which, to be honest, can’t be called easy. Michael Riman, Team-leader of Perpetuum Software: “Everybody knows that passions around forthcoming release have been rising in the air for a few months and now the work is done. All that I can promise our clients is not to stand still and continue enhancing our brainchild to release the next version in April 2010.” For those who don’t know what the matter is I’d like to remind that Silverlight Viewer for Reporting Services 2008 is the first product on the market intended for displaying Reporting Services 2008 reports in Silverlight. The component represents a native Silverlight control and is easily integrated to any Silverlight application.

Firstly, Perpetuum Software announced the release of the product intended for the work with Reporting Services 2005, but after a majority of requests to integrate it with SSRS 2008, a new beta version appeared on Perpetuum web-site. “Beta version testing by Perpetuum Software clients lasted 2 months and gave really great results. The majority of developers are satisfied with the quality of the product and delighted by its unique features. These results are really impressive and encourage us for further work for the benefit of our clients!” – shares its opinion Eugene Akinshin, CTO of Perpetuum Software LLC.

Company management who gathered on this meeting say that many people have been waiting for the release of Silverlight Viewer for Reporting Services 2008 for a few months. They actively participated in company’s life. And as a result the work on fixing of minor errors and insignificant bugs according to client’s suggestions on product improvement is over at the present moment. Yakov Zhdanov, Project Manager of the product: “We are much obliged to our clients who were with us on all the stages of development. We’ll thank them not by pleasant words but by new product features which are planed after the full release, such as Drilldown implementation, bookmarks rendering, additional pagination modes, and new samples. The work on this functionality has already been started.” These words are worth to be trusted.

The meeting covered issues concerning the strategy of further work, client’s feedback, and product’s licensing. But let’s leave all these important questions on the company’s discretion. From our part we can only be glad that such long-awaited event happened. Perpetuum Software clients are welcome to download and try new product which have no analogous all over the world – Silverlight Viewer for Reporting Services 2008.

In conclusion I’d like to quote Alexander Barakhaev, principal developer of Silverlight Viewer for Reporting Services: “The full product release was hard and even exhausting work. We went towards this aim for a long time and hope that our great efforts will be appreciated at their true value.” These guys made great work, didn’t they? I think it’s time to check it out! Who’s with me?
